Bust!-Fuck City
One of my favorite local Chicago area local bands. Straight up, in your face, fucking garage punk. Always fast, always rocking. Check it out, and if you like it, go to a show and pick one up. Awesome!

Aesop Rock-Float
Favorite MC. Period. I know i’ve said that in previous posts. This is Aes Rock’s first full-length, but in my opinion currently, his best. Extremely stripped down production, with usually just a drum track and one or two instruments gives the album a very dark and minimalist sound. AR’s lyrics are always stunning, but i feel like this release is one of the more heart-felt...

Capsule-Blue
Crushing, mathematical, epic, crushing, grinding. Almost like if Dillinger Escape Plan fucked Ampere, but Earth was in the bushes watching. Stoked on this new find, bought the LP. I definitely encourage everyone to purchase this LP, as the artwork is stunning and it comes with a CD.

Lifetime - S/T
I haven’t posted in a week. No care. Anyways, this album is an all time fav for suuuure. Lifetime was a incredibly influential melodic hardcore band in the early 90’s who put out records until i believe ‘98 or so, with they’re last release “Jersey’s Best Dancers”. Since then the members went to form and play in other projects (Kid Dynamite, Paint It...

Bridge and Tunnel-7"
This is the first Bridge and Tunnel release from 2006. If you’ve already checked out “East/West” by them, this is pretty much the same deal, just maybe a bit more raw sounding. Brutally honest lyrics, gritty male vocals with shouty, dramatic female vocals, and very melodic, twinkley guitars. Think Cursive’s “Domestica” plus a whole lot more twinkle in the...
Girl Talk-Night Ripper
If you’ve heard any Girl Talk, you know what he’s all about. Zany mashups of pretty much every genre and artist you could ever imagine. The way Girl Talk achieves said mashups, although, is executed better than any mashups i’ve ever heard. In my opinion, his newest release “Feed The Animals” is better, but this one is still great, as it is the release that really...

Brand New-The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
Brand New’s third release is one of the most impressive production jobs I have ever seen. For being recorded at four different studios, all the songs sound amazingly consistent. There is the perfect amount of effects, guitar mods, and reverb on everything, to make this an extremely enjoyable album to listen to. Aside from all that, the song writing is incredible. While the majority of it...
Aesop Rock-Labor Days
Favorite MC. Period. Amazing production (Blockhead), fierce rhymes, fantastic flow. A+ rap record. On this album Aes Rock covers issues dealing with everyday life like 9-5 work days, depression, frustration, and guilt. Peppered with sarcasm and humor, Aes balances his rhymes with sincerity and honesty. Definitely an amazing experience to listen to this record.

Dillinger Four-This Shit Is Genius
Dillinger Four is pretty much awesome pop-punk soaked in alcohol. Gritty, double tracked vocals, driving punk chord progressions, and half totally goofy, half heartfelt honest lyrics. This album is a collection of assorted 7 inches and singles from the mid-nineties, so it’s pretty gritty sounding, as some of the tracks sound like they were ripped straight from vinyl. Which makes it fucking...
Fear Before The March Of Flames-Odd How People...
FBTMOF fucking rule. This is one of those albums I loved in 2005, and i’m not ashamed to say I still listen to it to this day. Something about this album still holds up, and pushes past all the shitty trends of the “metal-core” that was so hip a couple years ago. This is FBTMOF’s first release, so it’s nowhere near as polished as their more recent releases, but...

Heroin-Discography
Extremely influenceial 1st wave emo from San Diego. Brutally honest lyrics, over loud, noisy hardcore. Members went on to form End of the Line, Antioch Arrow, Spacehorse and Clikatat Ikatowi.

Braid-Frame and Canvas
Midwestern emo = Braid. Hailing from Urbana Illinois, Braid was part of the legendary midwestern emo movement with bands like The Promise Ring, The Get Up Kids, and Cap’n Jazz. From beginning to end, there is a perfect balance of angst against joy, power chords against twinkle, and sarcasm against sincerity. This is an essential album if you are in anyway interested about emo in the...
Bridge and Tunnel-East/West
I had the pleasure of seeing this band with Dillinger Four last Thursday. It being the first time I had ever heard them, needless to say, I was absolutely floored. The emotion and intensity was amazing, and i could tell these guys (and gal) put everything they have into their music. They have the typical No Idea-esque sound to the vocals, but the music is much more melodic. I’ve heard...
Girl Talk-Feed The Animals
For those who don’t already know, Girl Talk is a mash-up project of Greg Gillis. This is by far the most “fun” album out there. Definitely party DJ ready. But aside from the “party-DJ-dance” aspect, this is actually an extremely intelligent album. The amount of samples Gillis uses is mind blowing. There is most likly a sample from your favorite band in this record...
Suffix-You're Wearing Me Out demo
Another local Chicago screamo band, this one’s a newer find for me. Extremely emotional female vocals low in the mix, very melodic guitar, amazing musicianship, most definitely a favorite already. More to come by this band in the future. Members of Lautrec and Cloud Mouth.
If you like it, please go to a show and pick a physical copy (they’re really cool) or some merch up. Support...
Lautrec-8 song demo
Lautrec is a local Chicago screamo band. Some of the most amazing music I have ever heard. I don’t know where to categorize their sound. Somewhere in between City Of Catepillar, Lion Of The North, and Jazz? I guess. Needless to say I absolutely love ever single track on this demo. The Musicianship is amazing, as the guitar lines are always amazing and super emotional. The drummer is a mad...
Comadre-The Youth
Somewhere between punk and screamo, Comadre sets up their jams with melodic, driving guitar riffs and add distorted, manic screaming over it. This band overflows with energy on this record, with really tasteful punk drumming and awesome sing along chants. After seeing them on Wednesday night in my friend’s basement, i was blown away. While this is their first record i’m posting...
Why?-Alopecia
Hip-hop? Indie? Folk? Whatever, somewhere in between i guess. This album is definitely irresistible , as i find myself listening to this at least once a week. The first track (The Vowels pt. 2) reels the listener in with immensely strange lyrics and a really cool beat made of stomping, clapping, and chains. Track two (Good Friday) is even more hip-hop oriented as the first, with even stranger...
Loma Prieta - Dark Mountain
I saw these guys exactly a week ago in my buddies basement. needless to say i was stunned. I couldn’t even jump or run around, because i was so transfixed on what was happening in front of me. I’ve heard these guys describes as “post-screamo” but i think it’s a bit too harsh to be described that. That said, there are plenty of melodic guitar lines flowing through...
Fear Before The March Of Flames - The Always Open...
My favorite “post-hardcore” release ever. This album just flows together so perfectly. From the mysterious opening “Absolute Future” to the crushing “Absolute Past”, this realease keeps me thouroghly entertained. I’ve been listening to this album for about 2 1/2 years and it still amazes me to this day.
